Internationally Educated MLTs
Internationally Educated MLT (IEMLT) bridging programs are designed specifically for IEMLTs to help prepare them for certification exams and to practice in the Canadian healthcare system. There are currently two IEMLT bridging programs in Ontario.
Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) If you are a newcomer to Ontario and have been trained and working as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) in another country you should follow the Prior Learning Process (PLA) with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Health Force Ontario’s (HFO) Access Centre for Internationally Educated Health Professionals (IEHPs) provides programs and services to IEHPs to help them integrate into the Ontario health care system with the primary goal of helping them become trained, licensed, and employed in their profession or an alternative career. Medical Laboratory Science Bridging Program: Continuing Education at The Michener Institute of Education at UHN This bridging program is designed for internationally educated and experienced medical laboratory technologists whose training and work experience have been assessed by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and who have been issued a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Report. In this intensive and comprehensive sixteen (16) week program offered twice a year (Sept.-Dec. & Jan.-April), students gain valuable simulated laboratory experience and intensive theory review. The simulated laboratory review will assist students in obtaining an understanding of Canadian laboratory practices.
