Out-of-Province Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) for
Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technicians (MLA/T)
The MLPAO out-of-province prior learning assessment (PLA) process is designed for candidates who are interested in working as Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technicians in Canada, outside of Ontario.
The PLA process is available to Internationally Educated Medical Laboratory Technologists (IEMLT) and other candidates with recent laboratory experience who are interested in working as an MLA/T in Canada, outside of Ontario.
The PLA process assesses the academic credentials and work experience of candidates to determine whether they would be eligible to meet the entry level qualifications to work as an MLA/T outside of Ontario.
Out-of-Province PLA
The PLA process does not determine a candidate’s eligibility to write the MLPAO Certification exam. Candidates who have graduated from a formal MLA/T program in Canada (outside of Ontario) or with qualifications from outside of Canada, and are interested in writing the MLPAO certification exam must apply through the Special Consideration process.
